Dual SIM smartphones have long been popular in various countries, and now, the era of phones with three SIM slots has arrived. Samsung has decided to dip its toes into the triple SIM smartphone market, and has launched the Galaxy Star Trios in Brazil, a phone that is similar to the Galaxy Star launched last year but takes it up a notch when it comes to the number of SIM slots. The phone can be bought from various retailers in Brazil for $165, and apart from the triple SIM functionality, there’s nothing to write home about in the Galaxy Star Trios.
The hardware on the Galaxy Star Trios is extremely low-end – it includes a 3.14-inch QVGA (240×320) display, single-core 1GHz Snapdragon S1 (MSM7225A) processor, 512MB of RAM, 2-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of storage and a microSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n (with Wi-Fi Direct), HSDPA, and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 1,3000 mAh battery. The software is thankfully not that outdated, as users will be able to take advantage of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with the usual Samsung features and skin on top.
There’s no telling whether Samsung will release the Galaxy Star Trios in other markets (like India, another nation where dual SIM smartphones are in high demand), though with the budget smartphone market being rather competitive at the moment, the company will likely bring it to more markets, with the hopes of selling the device based on its ability to simultaneously catch signals of three different network operators.
