Toshiba unveils world’s fastest SD cards

Toshiba will soon launch the world’s fastest SD cards. Geared toward power users, the top-of-the-line Exceria Pro memory card offers write speeds up to 240MB/sec and will be available in multiple capacities.

The new Exceria Pro memory card will be aimed at power users such as photographers and have the speed to allow high-resolution photos to be snapped and saved continuously. The cards will have a maximum transfer speed of 260MB/sec read and 240MB/sec write and will be available in capacities of 16GB and 32GB.

Toshiba said its latest memory is the first to use a controller that is compliant with the UHS-II (Ultra High Speed) specification which contributes to the high speeds. These new cards are designed to offer users of high-end digital cameras an excellent experience. This means that photographers should be able to snap still images continuously without touching the in-camera buffer.

Besides the Exceria Pro cards, there will also be some regular Exceria SDXC cards that will have capacities of 32GB or 64GB. These will also operate under the UHS-II standard, but they’ll have a maximum write speed of 120 MB/s.

Toshiba plans to release the Exceria Pro memory card by October, with the regular Exceria SD cards releasing in November. Prices have yet to be announced, but it’s said that the 64GB Exceria SDXC card will cost around $250
