Qwerkywriter: Typewriter-Inspired Mechanical Keyboard

Keyboards are a dime a dozen, but few are as retro and classy as the Qwerkywriter, a typewriter-styled keyboard and dock for your Bluetooth-equipped slate or computer. The Qwerkywriter was funded through Kickstarter, where it exceeded its goal by about $40,000.

The Qwerkywriter is a mechanical keyboard with 84 keys, USB, and an option for CMD keys for Apple users. The keys feature Cherry MX Blue switches, as well as chrome-accented keycaps the same as you’d find on a classic typewriter. The final product will have a return bar functionality, according to the Kickstarter page.

The keyboard isn’t as large and clunky as classic typewriters, however, measuring in at 12.5- x 7.5- x 3.5-inches, and weighing 3lbs. For those who want to use the keyboard with a tablet rather than a computer, it handles slates up to 5/8-inches thick.

The product is slated to start shipping in August 2015, and the folks behind it warn that the final specs might change before then. The ship date seems to apply to both early backers and general availability.
