These days,  social-media plays an increasingly important part in marketing as most marketing stunts are aimed at going viral online through social-media shares. Pepsi has come out with a Pepsi like machine which makes social media a requirement, not an option. The Pepsi vending machine offers users the option to “Like” the Pepsi fan page on Facebook for a free drink.

Pepsi partnered with TBWA Belgium to create the vending machine and it first showed up at a Beyoncé concerts in Antwerp.

The vending machine works by allowing users with smartphones to access LikePepsi.com and then connect with their Facebook account. After the user likes the Pepsi fan page on Facebook they receive a free cold beverage. The Pepsi Like Machine also uses location based services to make sure the phone is within the vicinity of the Pepsi Like Machine.

Those without smartphones can use a 42″ built-in touchscreen that allows users to log into Facebook directly from the Facebook friendly vending machine.  After logging into Facebook a timer is activated to ensure a user is logged out shortly after liking the Pepsi page.

This new method of sampling provides real-time feedback on who has liked, tasted and enjoyed the beverage.
