Implementation Of Mandatory Standard On Access Pricing (MSAP) And Lower Broadband Prices, by MCMC

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) mentioned that government is on track to reduce the price and increase the speed of fixed broadband.

The Mandatory Standard Access Pricing (MSAP) which came into effect on 1 Jan 2018 and fully implemented on 8 June 2018 by licensees. This requires local telco companies to submit access agreements with result in the reduction in fixed broadband prices to MCMC by 31 Aug 2018.

Due to the implementation of Sales and Services Tax (SST) on 1 Sep 2018, the deadline was extended to 30 Sep 2018 and this had impacted the prices of broadband. The key telcos such as Telekom Malaysia (TM), Maxis, Celcom and Time have reached agreement which will result in lower the prices for fixed broadband. Meantime, some telcos also have already introduced packages with lower prices and higher speeds before the 30 Sept 2018.

MCMC expects to make announcement on the broadband price reduction in the immediate future.
