Acer announced Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet and Acer Liquid S1 phablet

COMPUTEX TAIPEI, the largest computer exhibition in Asia will open its door from tomorrow until 8th June 2013. At the on-going event, Acer has announced Acer Iconia W3, the first 8” Windows 8 tablet and also the Liquid S1: a 5.7-inch smartphone with a near-stock Android experience.

The new tablet boasts an 8.1-inch LED-backlit display with 1280 x 800 resolution. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 mobile-optimized processor to smoothly handle a range of apps, including web browsing and enjoying digital media. It provides up to 8 hours of battery life and the front- and rear-facing 2MP webcams ensure that customers can capture images and video for social networking, video conferencing and sharing. . The new tablet is available with either 32GB(3) or 64GB(3) of internal storage, and customers can add an additional 32GB(3) via microSD for extra storage and convenient transfer of photos and video between devices.

Dell announced Latitude-branded Windows 8 devices

Other than the Dell XPS 12 ultrabook convertible which was launched in earlier, the company also announced that three new devices run the latest Windows 8 operating system and aimed at working professionals are now on sale in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. These include the Latitude 10, OptiPlex 9010 AIO and the Latitude 6430u Ultrabook.

Dell Latitude 10

It is a dual-core Intel Atom-powered slate that comes with business-friendly features, such as a removable battery and an expansion dock that connects it to other peripherals. The device also supports a digitizer stylus. It comes with 64GB of flash storage and also an 8MP rear and 2MP front facing camera, all encased in a 10.1mm thick, 658g package.

Dell Latitude 6430u

The Latitude 6430u will release into the market as Dell’s first business-class Ultrabook. The Ultrabook is said by the company to strike a perfect balance between aesthetic and corporate needs, thus combining both a thin, highly mobile form factor with security, manageability and durability.

Fujitsu launched enterprise devices for Windows 8 in Malaysia

Fujitsu launched its first wave of enterprise devices for Windows 8.

“With our long history of producing convertible tablet PCs with touch features, the brand new Fujitsu Touch devices are a perfect fit with Windows 8 to provide users an intuitive and effective working experience. Especially today where, touch-screen devices are rapidly being adopted across multiple, evolving work environment,” commented Yap Hui Hui, Country Manager Malaysia, Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific Ltd. She also said that the company was proud to bring some if the latest innovations in workplace device functionality and usability for their customers in Malaysia.

Acer Malaysia unveiled a range of Windows 8 products

Last week, Acer Malaysia unveiled a complete range of products running on Windows 8, including Acer Aspire S7 – Acer’s thinnest, lightest touch Ultrabook, together with the ICONIA W Series tablets and Aspire U Series All-in-One (AIO).

The Evolution of Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows, the most widely used operating systems in the world has just launched its latest version, Windows 8 few days ago. Let’s walk down the memory lane to see how Windows has evolved.

Windows 1.01 (1985)

Officially released on November 20, 1985, this 16-bit OS that cost less than 1MB in overall is Microsoft’s very first operating system that allows multi tasking with graphical user interface on PC platform that runs on MS-DOS 5.0.

Windows 95 (1995)

Windows 95 is a successor to all the existing Windows operating system so far. It gives full graphical user interface support, integrated a 32-bit TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) stack for built-in Internet support, dial-up networking, and new Plug and Play capabilities that made it easy for users to install hardware and software.

Windows 98 (1998)

Windows 98 was the upgrade from Windows 95. Described as an operating system that “Works Better, Plays Better,” Windows 98 was the first version of Windows designed specifically for consumers.

Windows 2000 (2000)

Windows 2000 Professional was designed to replace Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on all business desktops and laptops. Built on top of the proven Windows NT Workstation 4.0 code base, Windows 2000 added major improvements in reliability, ease of use, Internet compatibility, and support for mobile computing.

Windows XP (2001)

Windows XP Professional brings the solid foundation of Windows 2000 to the PC desktop, enhancing reliability, security, and performance. With a fresh visual design, Windows XP Professional includes features for business and advanced home computing, including remote desktop support, an encrypting file system, and system restore and advanced networking features.

Windows Vista (2006)

Came more than 5 years after it’s predecessor Windows XP, Vista is the longest timeline break for Microsoft between two operating system.

Windows 7 (2009)

Windows 7 is one of the most anticipated operating system which should be available somewhere in Oct 2009.

Windows 8 (2012)

Launched in October 2012, Windows 8 primarily focused towards improving its experience on mobile devices.

Windows 8 and Surface Launch

Microsoft Thursday launched Windows 8, the latest version of its operating system, a version it hopes will be modern enough to keep existing users and draw new ones to it.

Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows and Windows Live, kicked off the event in New York City by saying that Microsoft is celebrating the global availability of Windows 8 on Thursday. Sinofsky revealed that Windows 7, the prior version of Microsoft’s desktop operating system, has sold more than 670 million licenses.Windows 8 uses Windows 7 as its foundation and it has undergone more than 1,240,000,000 hours of testing.

With Windows 8, “seeing, touching, clicking, and swiping is really believing,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says. “Welcome to the world of Windows 8.”

During the event, Microsoft also made its first hardware debut by launching its long awaited Windows Surface tablet. Surface tablet is Microsoft’s first computer in its 37-year history and hopes the sleek new device will take on Apple and Google in the smartphone and tablet market.

Microsoft Surface features a pre-installed version of 2013, and rich video and music services. Windows RT is a new version of Windows that will be pre-installed on its Surface tablet and other devices using low-power chips designed by ARM Holdings Plc.

Windows is also selling a magnetically attached cover for Surface that works as a notebook-size keyboard. Surface comes with a 10.6-inch screen and resolution of 1,366×768 pixels. It runs on a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU. It comes in both 32GB and 64GB variants. Its microSD card slot supports up to 128GB cards, and the tablet includes 2GB of RAM. It has 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 4.0, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and a built-in compass.

Microsoft Surface sports a Micro-HDMI port, a full USB 2.0 port, and a power port that magnetically attaches the power cable. The 32GB starting version of Windows Surface will cost USD 499.

ASUS Revealed Windows 8 and RT Devices

On October, 23rd, (the same day as Apple iPad Mini launch), Asus revealed several upcoming new systems during a press event in New York. The Asus Windows 8 and RT line-up includes The ASUS VivoTab RT, ASUS Taichi, ASUS Transformer Book, VivoBook series and ASUS Zenbook.

ASUS Vivo Tab RT

The VivoTab RT is a Windows RT hybrid with a detachable keyboard. The slate alone is just 8.3 mm thick, and comes in 32GB and 64GB SKUs. It boasts a 10.1” 1366×768 Super IPS+ display and there’s an 8MP/1080p rear-shooter and a 2MP front shooter. Its sides are graced with ⅜” audio jack (headphone/mic combo), microHDMI, microSD and a curious quad-speaker set-up courtesy of SonicMaster. The tablet sports a 25Whr battery, rated at 9 hours per ASUS, with a second 22Whr battery in the dock that pushes run time to 16 hours.

The VivoTab RT features NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 chipset, alongside the Icera 410 baseband, which brings with it DC-HSPA+ and LTE connectivity. The price starts at $599 for the WiFi model.

ASUS TAICHI

ASUS Taichi is a dual-screen laptop whith a panel on each side of the lid. Both are 1080p IPS screens, and can be used together or one at a time in either laptop (open) or tablet (closed) modes. It weighs at 1.25 kg and also has a stylus for precision work. Prices for the device start at $1299, with a dual-core Core i5 3317U processor (max clock 2.6 GHz), 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD; and prices max out at $1599 with the Core i7 3517 (max clock 3.0 GHz), 256GB SSD and a digitizer and stylus. All should be available this November.

LG unveils new Windows 8 lineup ahead of Microsoft launch

LG has officially announced its Windows 8 lineup ahead of the 26 October launch of the Microsoft OS. The new range of product includes an 11.6-inch hybrid touchscreen notebook / tablet known as the H1660 and a 23-inch touchscreen all-in-one, officially known as the V325.

H1660 Notebook / Tablet

LG’s H160 is a tablet-laptop hybrid. The IPS display operates at 1,366 x 768 while the system itself is powered by an Intel Atom Clover Trail (Z2760) processor. USB, Wi-Fi, HDMI-out and a microSD card slot all come standard.

The device weighs 2.3 pounds and it is about as thick as a standard Ultrabook at 0.63-inches. It features an automated slide-out keyboard tray that is operated via an auto-slide button. It promises a battery life of 10 hours.

V325 All-in-one PC

The V325 desktop includes a 23in display with 10-point multi-touch support, an Intel Core i5 processor and Nvidia GeForce GT640M graphics. It also comes with a built-in digital TV tuner for watching broadcast television.

Both devices will be hitting the Korean market at the launch of Windows 8 OS .

The preview of Acer Upcoming Windows 8 Products For Malaysian Market

While Windows 8 is arriving to us officially in less than two weeks time, Acer has just held a preview session in The Bee, Publika to showcase the company’s upcoming Windows 8 line-up that will be available in Malaysia very soon.

During the preview session, few Windows 8 products were being displayed. These include the Acer Aspire S7 touch-enabled Ultrabook in both 13.3-inch and 11.6-inch form factors, Acer Aspire 7600U 27-inch All-in-One PC, the Intel Atom-powered Acer Iconia W510, the Acer TH232HL 23-inch IPS touch display and also the The Acer Z110 and CloudMobile S500 smartphones. These displayed products were pre-production units, hence no specifications and pricing were revealed.

They look to surprise everyone during the upcoming launch event which will take place not long after the general availability of Windows 8 on October, 26th. Let’s take a peek on the displayed items at the event:
