The Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

Lenovo Malaysia has recently revealed the latest addition to its laptop-tablet lineup, the ThinkPad Helix. The new model is designed for business professional, featuring a “rip and flip” design with four unique usage modes, including laptop mode, tablet mode, stand mode and tablet+ mode.

The ThinkPad Helix combines the performance of a business Ultrabook with the mobility of a Windows 8 tablet. In addition to 10 hours of battery life and digitizer pen input, the Helix also features:

Lenovo Ideaphone P770 & S890 priced at RM699 & RM799

If you are looking for a mid-range Android phone, you may consider the Lenovo Ideaphone P770 and S890 which are now available in Malaysia at an affordable price.

Lenono Ideaphone P770

The device comes with a 4.5-inch qHD 960 x 540 display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and features Android 4.1. It has a 5 MP rear camera and a VGA front shooter. There’s 4GB of onboard storage that’s expandable with a MicroSD slot up to 32GB. The P770 is a dual-SIM device and boasts a massive 3500mAh battery, which is claimed to last for 12.5 days of standby time. The P770 with 11.7 mm thin and 162 grams light is priced at RM699.

Lenovo Ideaphone S890

The Ideaphone S890 comes with a 5-inch IPS display with qHD 960 x 540 resolution (220ppi). It runs the Android 4,1 OS and features a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and 4GB onboard storage expandable with a microSD slot up to 32GB. The S890 has an 8MP rear camera and a VGA front shooter. However, it owns a smaller 2250mAh battery.

The S890 is also a dual-SIM device. Weighs at 176 gram and measures 143 x 74.2 x 9.3 mm dimensions, the device is priced at RM 799.

Lenovo introduced the first Chromebook for schools

Lenovo announced its first Chromebook the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook which is custamizable for K-12 education (primary and secondary education in the United States). It simplifies software and security management for school administrators and provides students and teachers with quick access to thousands of apps, education resources and storage.

“The ThinkPad X131e has proven to be very successful in education environments,” said Jerry Paradise, executive director of product marketing, ThinkPad Product Group. “With the rugged features we added to the X131e, we’ve seen reduced failure rates in the field. This is a huge benefit to schools and students. We’re pleased to be able to offer this hardened ThinkPad Chromebook as a great computer for schools.”

The 11.6-inch X131e laptop features an Intel® processor, a 1366×768 HD LED anti-glare screen, and three USB ports. At less than four pounds¹ and battery life for the entire school day, students can easily carry the laptop between classes without the need to recharge. The ThinkPad X131e also offers a number of customization options including custom colors, asset tagging services to help keep track of devices left on the school bus or in the classroom, and school logo etching to make every device unique to each educational institution.

The ThinkPad X131e Chromebook will be available starting February 26th via special bid volume pricing starting at $429.

Lenovo unveiled flagship smartphone K900

Chinese technology giant Lenovo has unveiled its flagship smartphone K900 at the international CES 2013 in Las Vegas.

The Lenovo’s K900 handset is claimed to be the first smartphone to feature an Intel Atom Processor. The company also claimed that the K900 is the slimmest handset in the 5-inch plus size smartphones/phablets segment, weighing at only 162 g.

Key Specifications of Lenovo K900:
- 5.5-inch IPS (In-Plane Switching) display technology with full HD 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass 2 display shield.
- run on Android OS, but Android version is not revealed yet
- measures 6.9 mm thick and weighs 162 g.
- Intel Atom processor comes handy with faster web-browsing and application loading.
- K900 comes packed with 13.0-megapixel camera and F1.8 focal length lens, making it the first handset to feature such a wide aperture on its camera.
- K900 smartphone exterior case is made from a composite of stainless steel alloy and polycarbonate in a Unibody mould.
The smartphone is said to be available from April in China and later in select regional markets. There is no words on its pricing yet.

Lenovo announces ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch

Lenovo has announced to add the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch to its range of Windows 8-optimized Ultrabooks lineup. The new 14-inch Ultrabook improves on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon by adding a touchscreen display.

“Bringing touch gesture control to our best ThinkPad ever is a natural evolution of the portfolio and a big step towards fulfilling our promise to bring computers into a new PC+ era,” said Peter Hortensius, president, Lenovo Product Group. “We are excited to be able to offer customers the best experience in a thin and light business class Ultrabook. The X1 Carbon Touch is the Ultrabook to beat.”

Lenovo is billing the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch as the world’s lightest 14″ touch notebook. Weighing at only 3.4 pounds and measuring 20.8mm thin, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch is constructed with carbon fiber material that provides strength and durability beyond traditional
notebook materials. You can interact naturally with smooth 10 finger touch on the vibrant 14 inch HD+ display and further enrich your Windows 8 experience using the large multi-gesture glass touchpad. Certified as the first Ultrabook optimized for MS Lync, the HD face tracking camera and dual array microphones ensure high quality video and voice track capability without the need to use USB peripherals.

Like the regular X1 Carbon, the X1 Carbon Touch also has a 14-inch, 1,600 x 900 screen, a carbon fiber chassis, an Ivy Bridge chipset, built-in 3G and a backlit ThinkPad keyboard, complete with that signature red pointing stick.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch will be available starting in December through business partners and www.lenovo.com. Models start at approximately $1399.

Lenovo P770 with a gargantuan battery

The China’s Lenovo has launched few handsets in the market, including the quad-core IdeaPhoneK860, the waterproof and dual-SIM A660, and the woman-friendly S720. Now, Lenovo introduces another interesting Android smartphone: the P770.

Lenovo outstands its competitors by including a 3500mAh in the P770. Over the years battery life on Android handsets has gotten significantly better and it has become a more prominent feature when choosing a new phone. Thus, Lenovo equipped the P770 with a 3,500 mAh battery to put it in direct competition with the RAZR MAXX HD. According to Lenovo, this battery can provide up to 29 hours of talk-time, or up to 644 hours of stand-by time (that’s 26 days).

The P770 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features a 4.5 inch IPS display with 960 x 540 pixels, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, 5MP rear camera with LED flash, and a VGA front-facing camera. It measures 133 x 67 x 11.9 mm and weighs 161 grams.

The P770 is available in China where it will cost 1699 Yuan ($272). Lenovo has yet to announce any news on international availability.

The evolution of ThinkPad in the past 2 decades

Lenovo celebrates the ThinkPad’s 20th birthday this year. The 20th anniversary events have been held in few countries with joy.

It has been a lot of changes since the first ThinkPad in 1992, including the acquisition of the brand by Lenovo in 2005. Now the ThinkPad name applies to tablets as well as laptops, and the ThinkPad Tablet 2 is set for release at the end of October. How’s ThinkPad has evolved in the two decades?

Without further ado, let’s go through the ThinkPad products in the 20 years time!

1. ThinkPad 700

The ThinkPad 700 launched in 1992 is the very first ThinkPad. With a 10.4-inch color thin film transistor (TFT) display and a TrackPoint, it’s also the industry’s first laptop.

2. TP701C

IBM’s ThinkPad 701c’s unique butterfly keyboard rocked the laptop world when it debuted in 1995.It puts a full-size laptop keyboard into a much smaller package by using an innovative butterfly configuration. Despite its novelty factor, no other models have featured the “butterfly keyboard” since.

3. TP X61

The TP X61 Reserve Edition was created with a distinctive look, each individually numbered notebook is encased in hand-stitched, saddle-grade leather, which can be embossed with your name upon request. Featuring a concierge phone service, only 500 pieces were sold worldwide.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 Powered by Windows 8

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first ThinkPad laptop computers, Lenovo added a pair of products to the line – the X1 Carbon, an ultra-light carbon-fiber machine with 14-inch display, and the ThinkPad Tablet 2, a 10.1-inch device that runs Microsoft Corp’s new Windows 8 operating system.

The ThinkPad was introduced in 1992 by US-based International Business Machines Corp but became a Lenovo brand when the Chinese company bought IBM’s PC business in 2005.

The Ultrathin Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Lenovo has unveiled ThinkPad X1 – a lighter, quicker notebook computer, to appeal to customers who like the convenience of tablets and smartphones. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will go on sale later in August.

Lenovo shaved the 14-inch (35.5 centimeter) laptop computer’s weight to three pounds (1.3 kilograms) from the 3.7 pounds (1.7 kilograms) of last year’s model. It would have up to eight hours of battery life and the startup time was reduced by as much as half to under 20 seconds.

Lenovo Idea Tab S2110

As the answer to Asus Transformer Pad, Lenovo introduced the 10 inch Lenovo Idea Tab which runs Android 4.0.

Lenovo’s list price for the new tablet is $449 for the tablet alone, or $569 for the tablet and docking station. But right now the company is selling the tablet for $343.20 and up and the tablet and keyboard bundle for $399.20 and up. Those prices are for tablets with 16GB of storage. Lenovo also offers 32GB and 64 GB.

The Idea Tab S2110 has a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060A processor, 1GB LPDDR2 memory, and a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display.
