iBeetle~the first Volkswagen with iPhone integration

The iPhone from Apple and the Beetle from Volkswagen will form an alliance later this year for the “genuine integrative interface”. Volkswagen offers two different ways to acquire the innovative interface between iPhone and Beetle: as an app or as a standard feature of the new iBeetle and iBeetle Convertible. Both special models will be launched at the beginning of 2014.

The iPhone docking station is located at the center of the Beetle’s dashboard which enables the driver to snap in the iPhone easily to integrate it with the car. All iPhone functions are applicable in the Beetle, including navigation, make calls hands-free, music enjoyment and others.

Apple budget iPhone may hit the market

Apple always targets on high-end market, however the company is said to be coming out with budget iPhone in order to remain competitive in the market, especially with mid-range Android phones getting more and more affordable.

This budget iPhone will cost you half the price of the standard Apple iPhone 5 and will be targeted towards the emerging markets, especially towards Asia and Africa where countries like India, China and Brazil have shown a lot of potential market growth in the mobile and tablet segment.

The details on the budget iPhone were revealed on Friday to AppleInsider by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who has a reliable track record in predicting Apple’s future product plans. In order to maintain profitability, the way the budget iPhone is built will be changed. According to Kuo, the new, less expensive iPhone model is said to have a super-thin plastic casing mixed with glass fiber. The material will make it stronger, thinner and lighter than typical smartphone plastic casings.

The thickness of the phone is expected to be between 0.4 and 0.6 millimeters, which is thinner than the average plastic casing at between 0.7 and 1 millimeter. The phone will also reportedly come in a range of colors, much like Apple’s iPod lineup.

2012 has been a fruitful year for mobile phone market. Various tip-top phones have been released, including the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, the 5.5 inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2, iPhone 5, LG Nexus 4, Windows Phone 8 and more! It’s an exciting year for phone enthusiasts.

While 2012 is coming to an end in less than two weeks time, what do you expect in year 2013? More high-end devices loaded with new innovations? Certainly, it is going to be interesting!

Rumors are already swirling about some high-end devices that will be coming to shelves, including an iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4. Gotta Be Mobile painted a picture of what consumers can expect from 2013.

iPhone 5

One feature that consumers can expect at this point is iOS 7 as Apple tends to release a new version of iOS with its yearly smartphone. As it has with other iPhones, Apple is expected to make some other powerful upgrades to the next iPhone which will make it more attractive than the iPhone 5 already is.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The device is likely to be the follow-up to the widely successful Samsung Galaxy S3, a device that is sold over 30 million worldwide. Not much is known about it other than that it will likely feature a powerful rear camera and a 1080p display, possibly 4.99-inches in size.

Google Maps returns to iPhone

Google Maps is returned to the iPhone, months after Apple replaced it with its own home-grown mapping service which has prompted a lot of complaints.

The app shows more map on screen and turns mobile mapping into one intuitive experience. It’s a sharper looking, vector-based map that loads quickly and provides smooth tilting and rotating of 2D and 3D views. With the new Google Maps, Apple device users can now access public transit information, live traffic and the popular street view feature.

Google said in June that there were 1 billion monthly active users of Google maps services and that the Street View cars have driven more than 5 million miles (8 million km) photographing streets all over the world.

According to Google official blog, The new Google Maps app is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch (4th gen) iOS 5.1 and higher, in more than 40 countries and 29 languages, including Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

Apple has made the Google Maps available for download on its App Store. The file size is stated to be 6.7MB and is optimized for the Apple iPhone 5. At point of publication, the Maps app is still not available for download in Malaysia.

General Motors to integrate Siri into cars

General Motors announced at the Los Angeles International Auto Show that it will integrate Apple’s voice-activated software Siri into some if its cars next year so that the tech savvy drivers are able to perform hands-free tasks.

The Siri intelligent assistant will be installed in the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic LTZ and RS. GM said that it has found a way to link Siri to the new infotainment systems in these two car models. Drivers with a compatible iPhone running iOS 6 can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.

The new features will further minimise distraction with an eyes-free mode that enables users to interact with their iPhone using nothing more than their voice while keeping the device’s screen from lighting up.

Drivers will be able to continue chat with voice-activated Siri and perform the same tasks they usually do on a smartphone, such as making hands-free calls, play songs in the iTunes library, or switch music sources from radio to iPod mode. They may also listen to, compose and send messages to people in their contact list.

Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director for small cars, said, “Safe, easy, reliable and portable connectivity is a top priority for our customers, and Siri complements MyLink’s existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience.”

Pinterest apps for Android, iPad and iPhone

A week after dropping its invite-only policy, social-bookmarking service Pinterest has made another move into the expansion for mobile. It debuted three new Pinterest apps- for Android, iPad and iPhone.

Pinterest is a visual bookmarking tool for collecting and organizing content you find online by theme. Users mark, or “pin,” sites they like and make carefully crafted collections that other people can view and share. Since it launched last year, Pinterest has only been available on the Web and through its popular iPhone app.

However, Pinterest’s goal has never been to keep users online. Instead, they want to inspire users to go offline and do things that they love. Thus, they are providing new apps which are now available for download at Apps.Pinterest.com. The new apps allow you to pin, discover, and access your account from wherever you choose.

Apple’s iPod touch to get iPhone 5-like makeover

Whilst the tech world awaits the upcoming Apple iPhone 5 release date, new reports have suggested an upcoming iPod Touch revamp that adopt the same 4-inch display tipped for inclusion on the next-gen smartphone.

A new report from the Japanese technology website Macotakara stated that the next iPod Touch could be equipped with the same processor found on the iPhone 4S, which means an upgrade from the A4 to the A5 chip. Other specs may match that of the iPhone 4S as well. The next model will reportedly have a different back-case style — buffed aluminum instead of the polished stainless steel mirror design. And potential buyers may get a choice of black or white.

Other than this, the next-gen iPod Touch is expected to have an extra hole on the lower part of the back case, but the report had no clue as to its purpose yet. It is also expected to have a hole toward the bottom back of the device, but the report is unsure of its function.

MacRumors reported that the next iPOD Touch model will be equipped with the same in-cell touch display technology reportedly slated for the next iPhone. Such technology helps keep the device thin and light.
