xIntel announced Haswell Chip at Computex

In recent years, the mobile industry is continuing evolve at an incredible pace. Tablet shipments are projected to grow 45 percent while PC shipments may decline 7.8 percent this year, the worst annual drop on record, the researcher said. The personal-computer makers are relying on a new power-sipping chip to restore demand to an ailing PC market reeling from consumers abandoning laptops for tablets.

Intel showed off its laptop chip called Haswell at Computex, one of the biggest annual computer events. Haswell is Intel’s latest attempt to move away from producing processors that suck as much electricity as small TVs to make chips that can let laptop users watch three movies on a single battery charge. The chip design delivers 50 percent more battery life than Intel’s previous model, enabling thinner, lighter notebooks and machines that convert to tablets.

Acer announced Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet and Acer Liquid S1 phablet

COMPUTEX TAIPEI, the largest computer exhibition in Asia will open its door from tomorrow until 8th June 2013. At the on-going event, Acer has announced Acer Iconia W3, the first 8” Windows 8 tablet and also the Liquid S1: a 5.7-inch smartphone with a near-stock Android experience.

The new tablet boasts an 8.1-inch LED-backlit display with 1280 x 800 resolution. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 mobile-optimized processor to smoothly handle a range of apps, including web browsing and enjoying digital media. It provides up to 8 hours of battery life and the front- and rear-facing 2MP webcams ensure that customers can capture images and video for social networking, video conferencing and sharing. . The new tablet is available with either 32GB(3) or 64GB(3) of internal storage, and customers can add an additional 32GB(3) via microSD for extra storage and convenient transfer of photos and video between devices.

The design & innovation (d&i) awards had been one of the highlights at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2012. The event was founded in 2008 and has rapidly won international limelight for being one of the best platforms to inspire new thinking and creativity in the ICT industry and introduce the exceptional innovative ICT products to the world.

There were 44 winning entries in this year’s competition for the award. During the official Opening Ceremony of COMPUTEX TAIPEI on 5 Jun 2012, the five Gold Award winners of the COMPUTEX d&i awards 2012 proudly accepted their honors.

Product : Inhon A 11.6″ InBook-Full Carbon Fiber Ultrabook

Jury’s opinion : “The first impression of the Ultrabook was minimalism and a nice overall mixture of material finish (real carbon fiber), functionality (lightness and strength) and design for simplicity and aesthetics. It’s nice to see a product that is not all bells and whistles.”

Jury’s opinion : “The entire jury, myself included, was happy to see design attention being paid to this quite utilitarian back-room product. The design team responsible realized that attention to design would help communicate a point of view that this company cares about its users. The design was quite well executed.”

Product : HTC Portable Speaker | Bluetooth Conference Speaker

Manufacturer/Design : HTC

Jury’s opinion : “The HTC Portable Speaker does something so fundamentally right where many reputable companies fail. This extension to the core HTC product line manages to enhance the company’s brand image rather than taking away from it. Where others decide to cost down their accessories, this unit uses a combination of premium materials, high-end hinging structures and lighting to create a truly exiting user experience. You simply can’t wait to ‘activate’ this cool device by deploying the spring loaded pop-up power key.”

Jury’s opinion : “The seemingly gaming design creates a form and aesthetics that transcend the gaming concept when you look at it from the point of view of operation and function. What a surprise!”

Manufacturer : Delta Electronics (Thailand) PCL, Samutprakarn, Thailand

Design : Orcadesign Consultants Pte Ltd., Singapore Innergie / Thailand

Jury’s opinion : “The solution responding to user needs for connecting, not parallel but vertically, with many different types of connectors deserves a top rating. The simple, compact composition of the product, which tends to become complex and bulky when a movable part is added, should be highly commended.”

Who is she?

Coco Wu, who best added warmth and humanity to the cold functional medium of high tech communications has been selected as Ms. Computex 2012. She was shortlisted due to her elegance and international outlook and her high level proficiency in Taiwanese, Mandarin, English and French.

She graduated from Tamkang University with a major in Business and minor in French. “It’s an honor to represent COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2012 to extend the Taiwan spirit of excellence to the global market,” Coco said.

COMPUTEX TAIPEI is a world’s leading ICT event. It’s the largest show in Asia and the second largest in the world. The show has brought together the leading professionals in IT industry and provided an absolute platform for them to expand their marketing networks.

The 32nd edition of COMPUTEX was held in Taipei International Convention Center from June 5th to June 9th. There were 1,800 exhibitors took part in the event and 5,300 booths were occupied.
